Sports Galore

 Lets be honest. This year sucks for the Blackhawks. It started off with the ownership announcing that the team is entering a transition period and would not actively be trying to win for the first time in a long time. While that was needed it still sucks to hear. On top of the play on the ice not being up to the level fans have gotten used to there has been key players missing. Seabrook tried to come back but injuries made him retire. Toews never even started the year, but has been on long term injured reserved all year. The team decided not to bring back Crawford so he also retired. Now it is Andrew Shaw who is stepping away from hockey and retiring.  Unfortunately Shaw has had an awful time with concussions during his entire time in the NHL. Over the course of his career he has been the type of player that would never shy away from physical contact. He was always the guy that brought the energy and spark when needed for the Blackhawks.  Baseball is back in full swing so that is great. What isn't great is how the cubs are playing. For the last three years the cubs have always played well in the beginning of the season, but have struggled mightily come September and October. Well this year the struggle is happening now. All but a few cannot seem to hit the ball with success. I'm not worried yet because it is still April and they have the entire summer to find their groove, but this hasn't been too fun to watch.  Since winning the World Series and going back to NLCS in 2017 the cubs have failed to make it past the first round of the postseason. This is a franchise that has done A LOT of losing and fans are worried that they are headed back in that direction. I pride myself on keeping calm and not freaking out too early when it comes to all sports, but the lack of interest shown by Cubs upper management in getting extensions done with their core players is concerning.  Before I talk about anything else I just want to say how nice it was to have the Masters back on its normal weekend. Obviously covid but a pretty big halt on the entire world this time last year. In 2020 the tournament was played in November so it was weird to see two green jackets given away within a few short months. For me the Masters always represents that spring is officially here and summer is coming quickly. From the beautiful pink dogwood flowers to the deep green grass everything just looks perfect.  Now moving onto the actual event this year. As I said before this year was different but the course was its old usual self. Even the top golfers in the world struggle with this course. Last years winner and the #1 golfer in the world, Dustin Johnson, didn't even make the cut this year. To stay on par with this year being different Hideki Matsuyama won the tournament.  Going into Monday nights national championship game between the Gonzaga Bulldogs and Baylor Bears most people myself included thought it would be a good game. While it was a decent game it was mainly dominated by Baylor. From start to finish it just looked as if they had more energy and passion on both sides of the court. Their defense suffocated the great Gonzaga offense and their three point shooting was top notch all night. Gonzaga had one of, if not the best offense in the entire country and Baylor shut them down with what looked to be ease. Overall, it was a very impressive showing from the Bears.  I'm just excited to see that it was some different teams in the mix for a title this year. The entire final four of Baylor, Gonzaga, UCLA, and Houston hasn't won a title in quite some time.  As a Bulls fan all I can say is wow. It's been a long time since the Bulls have been this aggressive at the trade deadline. All Bulls fans should write a thank you letter to Arturas Karnisovas (AK) for this. He is bringing the change that this organization has needed for quite some time. In total the Bulls made three trades yesterday but none was bigger then the one for Nikola Vucevic. He will now join LaVine as the second all star on this teams roster. This deadline brought tons of roster change to the Bulls and it was all needed. It was proven that the former roster could not win as it was constructed.  I can't state how appreciative I am of AK for bringing this change. The former management duo of Gar Forman and John Paxson would have never done anything like this. This is a new era of Bulls basketball and as a fan I couldn't be more excited. I understand that it may take some time to turn this franchise into a winning one, but it now feels like we're on the right p...

 This past weekend is undeniably the best weekend in all of sports. Even people who don't follow college basketball can get into this weekend. Between brackets getting busted, buzzer beaters, and upsets there is nothing but pure excitement for the entire weekend. The single elimination format allows for any team to get hot at the right moment and beat anyone. Every year there is at least one Cinderella team that the whole country can get behind and this year is no different. Oral Roberts is that team this year. After beating Florida tonight they are now the second ever 15 seed to make the sweet sixteen.  This year the tournament just feels so much better after not having one last year. The tournament is just one more thing to prove that things are starting to go back to normal. Now the weather is changing for the better and the world is slowing going back to normal what more could anyone want?
